About me

I am Deboushnik De, an International Master and professional chess coach, with a FIDE rating of 2430. My work focuses on high-level opening preparation, tournament preparation, game analysis, middlegame understanding and practical decision-making. I have had the opportunity to coach World Champions across different age categories, as well as National Champions and ambitious competitive players. I have also worked as a second for multiple 2600–2750+ Super Grandmasters, contributing to their preparation for high-level tournaments. My experience as a second includes opening preparation and repertoire development, novelty and theoretical research, opponent-specific preparation, deep game analysis, tournament strategy, preparation of critical positions, and practical decision-making under pressure. Working closely with elite players has given me a firsthand understanding of how strong players study, prepare and make decisions at the highest level. I bring the same principles into my coaching, adapting them to the individual needs and playing level of each student. I have also helped ambitious players achieve important rating milestones, particularly players in the 2000–2100 FIDE range, while coaching players who went on to achieve National and World Championship titles in their respective age categories.

My teaching approach

I strongly believe that chess cannot simply be taught, chess has to be learned. Ultimately, the responsibility for learning and improving lies with the student. As a coach, I cannot think for you or play your games for you. What I can do is show you the right path, guide you through the process, and help you learn how to work on chess properly. I don't believe in simply giving students variations to memorize, nor do I believe in showing a position and leaving them to think for several minutes without guidance. My lessons are interactive and personalized. I guide students through the critical questions in a position, encourage them to explain their thought process, challenge their ideas, and help them understand why a move works rather than simply telling them what the move is. The goal is to gradually develop your own thinking process so that you become capable of analysing positions, finding plans and making decisions independently, both during our lessons and in your own games. My role is not to give you all the answers. My role is to teach you how to search for the answers, how to work correctly, and how to become a stronger independent chess player.

Chess author and annotator

Alongside coaching and competitive chess, I work professionally as a chess author and annotator for leading chess education platforms: ChessBase — chess analysis, articles and professional annotation. Chessable — opening research and instructional chess content. Modern Chess — opening courses, theoretical research and high-level instructional material. My work involves deeply researching positions, discovering new ideas, analysing critical variations and transforming complex chess concepts into clear and practical instructional material.
